Tracey and James, Unplugged Encore (Henry’s Upstairs, 5/24/2010 @ 7 pm)

Filed at 5:47 pm under Uncategorized by sailb0y

Due to popular demand, Tracey and I will be putting on another acoustic set the Monday before Memorial Day.  We’re going to do this show even earlier so that hopefully more people can stay through more of it.

If you have specific requests, let me know at leapinlemur@yahoo.com.  (We reserve the right to butcher or otherwise modify all songs.)

We hope to be up and running again as a full band very soon but are currently short a drummer.  For now, enjoy the soothing acoustic sounds!

We’ll be playing 19 originals and 19 covers from about 8 pm – 11 pm.  Henry’s has a good drink special:  $1 off pints, I believe.

Henry’s is between Mass. and New Hampshire on 8th St.  Be sure to go upstairs (the bar area).

The first portion of this show will be a child-oriented acoustic set by Lance.  We’ll then move to louder, full band Beat Pirates but the first set is going to be slightly more kid friendly than the 2nd set in lyrical content at least.

The show starts at 6 and goes to 10.

No food is served but you are welcome to bring in your own (per management).

The Jazzhaus — Thursday, February 12th, 2009

The Beat Pirates will be sharing the evening with The Gleaners and have opted to take the earlier set.  We’ll go on at 10 pm sharp to accommodate those who work early on Friday and we’ll probably play until 11:15.

We’ll also be toasting probably two of the most important people to ever share the exact same birthday — Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln — in honor of what would be their 200th birthdays.

This show will feature Tracey Kastens on background vocals and we will be playing (mostly) our own material.

Thanks to Crow’s Nest Pete for the help with the flyer!

Sailor Boy Jimmy’s Diary – 20080622

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father — prepare to die.

I have a few updates to share:

- We’ll be playing with the Global Warmers and Lance Fahy (also our drummer) on July 25th at the Celtic Fox in Topeka. Although I’ve not yet been there, I have it from a good source that the establishment is superb and easy to reach from Lawrence. Let me know if you need a ride or, even better, can help with equipment hauling. More details to come.

- There are several new songs I need to add to the music page list, as soon as I regain access to the rest of the page for editing. For now, here’s a list: Sanguine Scarlet Sunrise (written for Tracey to sing and soon to be recorded group-session style — a first on both accounts), I’m With Me, Bookshelf Backdrop, The Lotus Eaters and, most recently, The Groper.

- My busy season is pretty well over now so I hope to spend some time getting back to the basics and securing more gigs. I know — I always say that!

May the Schwartz be with you,

Jimmy, the Sailor Boy

p.s. Don’t ask what the sudden obsession with cult comedies from 1987 is about.

Hey folks -

I just realized how long it’s been since I’ve posted, so here’s an update:

- We are looking to schedule a full-band opening gig somewhere locally in April. Stay tuned for details.

- Tim and I, along with Tracey, joined Lance for one of his acoustic gigs at Henry’s (on 8th St) on 2/10. I hope to have some pics and video up soon, but for those who missed it, it was a blast. Lance did some of his stuff, then Tracey joined him for a few songs. All 4 of us did “Dolphin Trainer” as well as a few covers: “She’s an Angel” and “I Don’t Want to Leave You on the Farm”. I played a few more solo and on bass with Lance and Tracey.

- We’ve been on a strictly songwriting and rehearsing diet and, in my opinion, have never sounded better.

- My new adopted cat, Nipper, came in already loving the occasional loud music and activity. Either that or he’s stunned and unable to move, but I think it’s the former.

That’s about it for now, but here’s to hoping for some warmer weather and more frequent gigs!
